Transition

Welcome to Tiverton High School!  Thank you for choosing to come to THS.

Moving up to secondary school can be a pretty nerve-racking experience both for you and your parents. We work hard to try to make sure that transition from your primary school is a positive experience for everyone, no matter what your needs might be. So that we can give as much support as possible to you all, we have put together a group of staff who will be able to help you in a variety of different ways. You will all belong to a tutor group with your own tutor who will get to know you very well. They will give you and your family the information and individual advice and guidance you’ll need as you settle in to our school and throughout your journey with us. Your tutor group will be alongside other similar groups within your year group and you will all have a Head of Year who will also remain with you until you progress on from Tiverton High School.
You may have already met some of our staff who work to make transition as easy for you as possible. Kate Gould, our Transition Officer, visits our local primary schools to see everyone and will continue to work with you and your families.

I am very proud of Tiverton High School and I am very proud of the effort we make so that your first steps in the school are positive ones. I hope that you enjoy your time with THS and that together we can achieve the success that you hope for.

Sammy Crook, Head Teacher

Transition Officer

The Transition Officer at Tiverton High School is Kate Gould who works with all the partner primaries in the Tiverton Learning Community. She also makes contact with schools that are not in our catchment area so all children are able to use the Transition Service.

Kate makes visits the primary schools regularly from March to July to share news and gather information about students. This all forms part of putting a plan in place to help your son or daughter settle with us from the very start. A big part of our transition activities is our transition week where our new students get the fantastic opportunity to spend 3 days onsite with us being THS students. Here, they will experience taster lessons, spend time within their tutor group, find out more about our site and facilities and take part in our Sports for All day. We also have an additional day for our Maggie Fasey Challenge – an exciting day orienteering around various points in Tiverton and meeting year 6 students from other schools.

If you have any queries or questions about joining us then Kate can be contacted on 01884 256655 ext 244 or via email, kgould@tiverton.devon.sch.uk
