First Solar Powered Plane

The world’s first zero emission plane will take off in Abu Dhabi on 9th March 2015. The 2.3 tonne plane runs off solar power instead of fuel but can only go to the speed of 87mph, which is 527mph slower than a Boeing aircraft.

The 12-leg journey will see the planes fly over Oman, then over India into China. The first leg of the journey will be 400km (249).

Andre Borschberb told BBC, “I am confident we have a very special aeroplane and it will get us to our destination.”

The aircraft can only carry one passenger on board, whereas the Boeing planes can carry around 600 passengers.

This plane’s creators hope to spread the word on ‘clean technology’.
