Yesterday we welcomed Uffculme School for an U13 girls football fixture, played at Tiverton Town FC.
Match report from Mr Symons:
‘This was the first time playing 11-a side for many of these girls and due to the heat meant we had to split this into four 20 minute quarters.
It was a tight game all throughout as the heat played a huge factor in a game that threw up few chances. This was until the last stages of the third quarter where Uffculme School centre midfielder scored an absolute screamer into the very top corner from all of 30 yards. A goal that a fully grown goalkeeper would have little hope of saving!
This meant that we had to change formation and throw caution to the wind, changing formation and pushing players forward. This left us more open and as we were pushing for a late equaliser to take us to penalties Uffculme scored another on the break. Final score was 2-0 to the visitors. Credit to them, an impressive performance.
A spirited performance and an invaluable experience for the girls playing 11 a side on a large pitch such as this, with lots of positives and a game that’s helped us see the areas where we need to improve on.
A huge thank you to former student Jess H for agreeing to come down and referee the fixture, KS4 students Chloe C and Lacey S for being linesmen and India W, Freya H and Maddie R for their support too. A thank you also to Tiverton Town for allowing us to use their facility. A really exciting opportunity for these girls who loved every minute of it.
My player of the match is tied between Kelsey P who was an absolute rock in defence, and Hannah S who’s strong running caused issues for the Uffculme defence throughout.
KS4 assistants player of the match goes to Hollie L who performed exceptionally at both right back and centre back when we moved to a back three late in the game’.
