U15 Girls are singing in the rain

On Wednesday our U15 girls football team travelled east to Winchester to take on all girls school, St Swithuns.

After 3 pitch inspections, we finally found one that was ‘playable’ . Nevertheless, the girls did not let the conditions hold them back, as barely 2mins into the first half Ana C decided to get the ball rolling with a 25 yard screamer that gave the keeper no chance to put us 1 nil ahead. Continued pressure and an excellent high press from Kacey H and Madison E saw us force their defence into mistakes, which Ana and Mackenzie H were able to capitalise on.

More goals soon came through hard work and determination. Kacey ran on the end of a through ball to score her first and took advantage of unsure defending to score her second. Another thunderbolt from Ana and two classy finishes from captain Mackenzie made it 6-0 at half time.

Conditions worsened in the second half as more parts of the pitch started to disappear under water. We found it much more difficult to play our game and it became very hard to assert any control over a very unpredictable ball. However, the girls put on a professional second half display to ensure we are in the hat for Round 3.
